Dorchester District CourtMassachusetts Department of Probation

Probation is a punishment whereby a convicted offender is allowed to remain in the community provided that certain conditions are met satisfactorily.

The purpose of the Massachusetts Probation System is to encourage law-abiding behavior within the community. Through supervision, Probation Officers assigned to the different court departments monitor offenders' compliance with the conditions of probation. Probation Officers in all court departments perform the same duties and functions with regard to investigation, supervision, and enforcement of court orders. They also act attempting to locate appropriate community treatment, educational and counseling programs for their clients.
