Juvenile Service Providers Team
To continue and enhance its effective interventions with at risk youth, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office was able to begin a Juvenile Service Providers Team (JSPT) funded by monies from the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant through the Executive Office of Public Safety. JSPT is currently comprised of five service coordinators who are licensed clinical social workers.
JSPT arose as a result of the acknowledgment of certain "gaps" seen at the roundtable meetings. Two such instances commonly noted were: students involved with several agencies which are not coordinating a single service plan for the child and family, or students who are not involved with any state agencies and are not getting much needed services. JSPT serves as the catalyst to encourage progress in the lives of these youth. JSPT coordinators are able to provide both family and individual clinical assessments, facilitate communication between involved agencies, introduce the child and family to appropriate interventions, create a service plan which will best meet the needs of the child and family, and to provide ongoing supervision in order to monitor the success of the chosen interventions. JSPT exists only as a tool of prevention and intervention and is in no way involved with the prosecutorial process.
